Utrecht University founded in 1636, is a globally leading Dutch university with 7 faculties, about 30.000 students. Two complementary departments of Uu are involved in the project:

1a) The Freudenthal Institute for science and mathematics education (UU-FI) is a research institute in the Faculty of Science aiming at the improvement of science and mathematics education, both formal and non-formal. FI also engages in science and mathematics teacher education, the continuous professional development of teachers, curriculum development and outreach activities.

1b) University Museum Utrecht (UU-UMU) was founded 1928 and is a leading research museum in the Netherlands. The principles of inquiry- and design-based learning and the theory of ‘the Nature of Science’ and scientific literacy form the basis of UMU’s programmes.

The research centre 'Groeikracht in Onderwijs' (Growth Power in Education) from Karel de Grote University of Applied Sciences and Arts is participating in this project. 'Groeikracht in Onderwijs' is a dynamic collective of (practical) researchers, service providers and bridge builders. Through research and services, it contributes to high-quality, sustainable education. To achieve this, on the one hand they strengthen - in close cooperation with the teacher training department - teachers and school teams in their classroom and school practice to meet the diverse support needs of pupils, and to create meaningful learning environments in which authentic learning is at the centre. On the other hand, they strengthen school leaders and policymakers to make the educational sector a sustainable employer that supports and develops its staff in the best possible way to shape sustainable education together.

Djapo

Djapo is a Belgian nationally licensed NGO working with the Belgian government to realise quality education and the SDGs in the field of Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship Education. Djapo provides needs-based pre-service and in-service teacher training for pre-primary, primary and secondary education. Djapo has developed its very own didactic framework and accompanying innovative methods and tools.

Winchester Science Centre is the only science and discovery center in the central South of England and one of the largest in the country, with a strategic vision of sparking curiosity and a mission to build science capital for all. WSC is an independent educational charity, founded in 1986, now it´s a regional leader in science communication, welcoming over 185,000 visitors annually, including over 40,000 school children, and engaging more than 30,000 people through school and community outreach activities.

Karlstad University is the fifth largest teacher education provider in Sweden and about 25% of the 16.500 students are affiliated to teacher education. The university has a large network of schools in which it collaborates regarding teachers’ practical education. The research centre SMEER (Science, Mathematics, Engineering Education Research) coordinted by KU aims to contribute to the international scientific knowledge in science, mathematics and engineering education, in various contexts of learning.

The Alma Löv Museum is an art museum with the ambition to make contemporary art available in the countryside. Besides its permanent and temporary exhibitions, the museum offers workshops, concerts, lectures, film festivals and educational courses. In 2017, the museum started school programs: the Alma Löv school program is designed to encourage engagement from all participating students, teachers and museum educators. Together they explore contemporary science topics through contemporary works of art.

Beit Berl College (BBC), one of Israel’s oldest and largest public colleges, with 700 faculty members and an enrolment of 10,000 students, is a leading multidisciplinary and multicultural academic institution in the areas of education, society, and the arts. BBC has one of the largest centers for professional development of educational practitioners (e.g. in-service teachers, principals, superintendents) in Israel. BBC is engaged in teacher training for STEM education and is currently developing a state-of-the-art STEAM Education Centre.

The Research Development (R&D) Experiments and Initiatives Department in the Israeli Ministry of Education has existed for over 25 years with focus on the research, development and implementation of future-oriented pedagogies. The department operates a network of ‘innovation generators’, which includes hundreds of schools that are graduates of development and entrepreneurial innovation programs that the department has been developing and conducting.
